Timor-Leste's public broadcaster RTTL operates Radio Timor-Leste in Tetum and Portuguese, the twin official languages of a nation that fought hard for the right to its own airwaves. A network of community radios — from Oecusse's exclave to the eastern districts — broadcasts in regional languages and remains among the most important in Southeast Asia, built during the UN transition. Indonesian pop's lingering popularity, Portuguese fado echoes and Timorese folk song mingle on the dial.
