Benin was a West African pioneer of media liberalisation, and its dial shows it: alongside the state ORTB, private and community stations broadcast in French, Fon, Yoruba, Bariba and Dendi. As the birthplace of vodun, Benin gives traditional percussion and ceremonial music genuine airtime, while Angélique Kidjo's homeland also embraces afrobeat, zouk and gospel.
