Senegalese radio moves to mbalax, the sabar-driven genre Youssou N'Dour carried to the world; the star even owns RFM, one of Dakar's leading stations. Public broadcaster RTS transmits in French and Wolof, the true lingua franca of the airwaves, plus Pulaar, Serer, and other national languages. Sud FM pioneered private broadcasting, wrestling coverage draws enormous audiences, and religious brotherhoods run devoted Mouride stations.
