Congolese rumba, born in Kinshasa, is arguably Africa's most influential sound, and radio in the Democratic Republic of the Congo runs on it. The state RTNC broadcasts in French and Lingala, while Radio Okapi — founded with UN backing — became a rare trusted national news source across a vast country. Hundreds of community and church stations operate in Swahili, Tshiluba and Kikongo, with soukous, ndombolo and gospel filling the music hours.
