Four-on-the-floor drums, lush strings, and joy as a genre: disco ruled the late 70s and never truly surrendered the dancefloor. Stations devoted to it spin Donna Summer, Chic, the Bee Gees, and Gloria Gaynor alongside Italo disco, rare grooves, and the nu-disco revival that keeps producers sampling the era. Saturday night mix shows and extended 12-inch versions are the format's signature. Disco radio suits anyone whose bad mood can be cured in one glittering chorus.
