Afrobeat — no s — is the revolutionary big-band sound Fela Kuti forged in 1970s Lagos: hypnotic grooves stretching past ten minutes, blaring horn sections, tight highlife guitar, Tony Allen's impossibly fluid drumming, and lyrics that took direct aim at power. The tradition continues through Femi and Seun Kuti, Antibalas, and countless funk-literate disciples. Stations here favor deep cuts and full-length workouts over radio edits. Come for the groove, stay for the politics — Fela never separated the two.
