The Åland Islands, an autonomous Swedish-speaking region of Finland, run their own public broadcaster — Ålands Radio, established under the islands' self-government arrangements. Programming is entirely in Swedish, covering the Lagting parliament, Baltic shipping and ferry news, and island cultural life across the archipelago's 6,700 islands and skerries. Swedish and Finnish national stations reach the islands too, but Ålands Radio remains the voice of this demilitarised maritime community.
