Saudi radio, long the domain of the state Saudi Broadcasting Authority with Riyadh Radio and the international Quran channel, has loosened up markedly: MBC FM pioneered Gulf commercial radio with khaleeji pop, and stations like Rotana FM now soundtrack a changing kingdom. Arabic dominates the dial, Quranic recitation retains a devoted audience, and English-language and mixed-format stations serve the large expatriate population.
