Bulgarian National Radio's Horizont channel is the country's news backbone, joined by cultural channel Hristo Botev and regional stations. Commercial radio leans on chalga, the glitzy pop-folk genre that divides Bulgarian opinion but fills the airwaves, alongside international pop on Radio Energy and Radio 1. Bulgarian dominates on air, and BNR's renowned recordings of traditional polyphonic folk music preserve a UNESCO-recognized vocal heritage.
