Sierra Leone Radio Stations

Sierra Leone's airwaves rebuilt themselves remarkably after civil war, with the UN-supported station that became the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation at the centre of the transition. Krio, the lingua franca, dominates alongside English, Mende and Temne. Community radio spread nationwide and proved life-saving during the Ebola crisis, broadcasting health guidance village by village. Musically, the dial mixes palm-wine guitar heritage, gospel, afrobeats and bubu music from the provinces.
