Radio Television Brunei, the state broadcaster of the oil-rich sultanate, has run radio services since 1957 in Malay, English, Chinese and Gurkhali — the latter serving the Gurkha garrison. Programming reflects the national ideology of Malay Islamic Monarchy: Quranic recitation, nasyid devotional song and royal ceremonial coverage sit alongside Malay pop and international hits. The call to prayer punctuates the broadcast day across all networks in this quietly devout nation.
